Thoughts Dollbaby by Laura Lane McNeal, Penguin Audio 2014, 11 hours and 12 minutes
Do: Read JoAnn’s review at her blog Lakeside Musings.
Don’t: Think that my three stars means that I didn’t like it. I liked it!
Do: Consider that the following publisher’s quote is something that I agree with; couldn’t say it better myself.
“A big-hearted coming-of-age debut set in civil rights-era New Orleans – a novel of Southern eccentricity and secrets.‘
Don’t: Be too sad that I don’t recall any mention of pie in this.
Do: Remember this narrator because she did an excellent job! Click here to learn more about January Lavoy.

Like JoAnn I loved this book and especially on audio. She did such an amazing job narrating this novel. I wouldn’t hesitate to listen to her again in the future.
I will most definitely seek out more audiobooks by Lavoy. She has a LOT.
Fun post format! I hope to read this one day.
I’m out of the reviewing habit – had to be something short to get back into the swing of it.
Too funny, I just stated that I loved ‘coming of age’ books set in the 60’s. I guess I HAVE TO read this one now.
Yes! 😀
I love this post format too, Care! And yes, when I say three stars, it means I liked the book too. I have had people say to me, oh, it’s too bad you didn’t like it. And I’m like, wait, I gave it three stars. That means I liked it. Because if you start at four or five stars when you like a book, what do you use to distinguish the great reads and the extraordinary ones?
I know, I know. Sometimes we expect all books to over-the-top amazing and it just doesn’t work like that. And it diminishes the 5 stars when too many, right?
Yes, exactly!
Fun format! I was hoping you’d love it, but like is fine. The narration was amazing.
Yea, I was looking at all the goodreads reviews of Harold Fry and wondering why some just LOOOOOOVed it and other’s only ‘meh’ and it struck me funny that I need to be more forgiving. I DID like this but I had a few issues, too which aren’t helpful, really, to itemize. I liked it, I liked the characters and the narration was quite good. So that’s that. 😀
Drives me crazy when I would give something 3 stars and everyone would apologize in the comments that I didn’t like it more!
I have some audible credits and I like the length of this one. Maybe I’ll get it!
I need to get longer audiobooks. I dont’ know if I can wait for May and I never like the sale books. 😦
