Pecan Pie Day

Happy Pecan Pie Day! July 12, so they say.

Let’s celebrate! Here is a photo of a Pecan Pie I once made… I only had a quick minute; thought I’d share something…  This is a link to a Pecan Pie post from (more than) a few years ago.

As for any books I’ve read lately that mention Pecan Pie, I can only refer you to Together by Julie Cohen, a book I read in April of this year. I can refer you but I can’t recommend. I thought the story execution was faulty, tbh.

I am behind on posting reviews, alas. I do want to post soon on the great books I’ve read lately; the most top-of-mind being A Gate at the Stairs by Lorrie Moore. I’m listening to Chloe Benjamin’s The Immortalists, narrated by Maggie Hoffman. Can’t say I’m in a slump, exactly, but I’m not tearing it up on the reading efforts. I’m one book behind my 2018 goal…

What’s been happening for you, lately? Any good pies sampled? Any great books to recommend?

  1. Pecan Pie makes me think of When Harry Met Sally, “But I would be proud to partake a piece of your pecan pie”. 🙂

I am reading Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by Caitlin Doughty, which made the rounds a few years ago. I am liking it OK. Easy to read a section or two a day. More non-fiction too! 2018 is shaping up to be the year read the most NF since college!

  2. Happy Pecan Pie Day! Your postcard arrived a couple of days ago – thank you! Still waiting on the media mail. I am loving Pachinko at the moment… a read/listen combination. Will finish this weekend. Curious to hear what you think about The Immortalists.

    1. Well, they were mailed together so here’s hoping it arrives soon! I am still in shock about how fast July is flying by me. I noticed this morning that the days are already feeling like they are shortening and I got sad.
Pachinko was a fast read – it just was very good story-telling! Glad you like it. I’m still not sure about the Immortalists, not sure about the narration either. I’ll stick it out, of course. It’s for a book club.

  3. I have had no pie whatsoever lately, and it is a terrible oversight by me. I had the opportunity to eat chocolate cream pie recently, and it looked amazing, but I had just eaten way too much dinner and I was at capacity. Sob.

    1. This is a sad situation that I can admit I have encountered myself. May I suggest you take the opportunity to get pie for later and eat for breakfast.
