I borrowed Joann’s categories but was woefully unsuccessful with the translated one, so modified it. THEN I looked at Jo’s categories and now I wish I had rechecked that first!! Oh well. It was fun to do. Actually, the most interesting thought upon reflecting on my Jan-June reading this year is how many TRIED & TRUE authors I have enjoyed AND how many authors I have read more than once already. I usually always have 90+% of new-to-me authors. Is this a new trend for me?
This is probably the first year I have EVER read six books in translation, let alone in the first six months! We share quite a few books and authors this year.
The Bookseller of Kabul is on my shelf. Should I make it a priority?
I read it for book club. Interesting look at war, Islam, and subsequent gender issues.
I really like this way of looking back at the first half of the year! I think I have a trend of more re-reads going this year, which isn’t something I usually do. Reading several authors multiple times in the same year is one I don’t think I’ve done either – it will be interesting to see how this compares to the second half!
I am not much of a rereader, neither. But I read Harold Fry TWICE in 4 months! Once reading once listening. The idea of enjoying a previous favorite read by audiobook appeals to me. AND this year, I have read two books by Atwood, two by King, two by Moriarity. This is quite rare for me.
I’m glad you are enjoying your year of reading so far and have found some interesting things happening with your reading, too.
Thank you for joining in and spreading this meme around the world.
I really must tackle The Luminaires at some point.
Thank YOU.
I listened to The Luminaries; I enjoyed it but it had some confusing elements to me since I don’t really get astrology.
The last translated book I read was a Swedish mystery. I’m pretty good at reading tried and true authors, though – maybe a little too good at it!
I am quite surprised at myself. I do like that my reading changes over the years and that I’m tracking it.
That was fun reading!
I’ve been thinking I need to read more translations, this year — just to shake up the reading a bit. Looks like I’ve read 4 or 5 without deliberately seeking them out, though.
Other than the Elena Ferrante’s, I’m not sure of any translated (tho maybe some classics) that I want to read, off the top of my head…
Elena Ferrante is at the top of my list!
