I am delighted to introduce you to one of my favorite people! Meet Madeline. She is one of my tutees – I’ve been teaching her how to use the internet and email. She is really getting the hang of it and is LOT OF FUN to work with.
I won’t tell you how old she is – because that’s just not proper… Aint she gorgeous? Wahoo!! (Yes, I asked her if it would be OK to post her photo and she answered, “I don’t care.”)
The other day, she was telling me she spent hours reading my blog! And she had so many compliments for me – she really pumped me up and made me feel so special.
She was so cute to tell me this, and I quote:
“How many people read this!? It’s so good – we really need to tell more people so they know about it!”
When I shared that I had readers from all over the world stopping by and reading my book reviews, she marvelled at the reach of our little book blogosphere.
So my next challenge is to encourage her to leave a comment… THEN I’ll try to get her to start her own blog! (She’s currently reading Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Her favorite books are the Anne of Green Gables series.)

I so enjoy it – I have 4 students who have done really well even though it still gets a bit frustrating. For them! well, I try not to be frustrated along with them (never at them!) They are all such dears. It’s a strange concept – these computers, the internet, all the visuals. And that darn mouse is TOUGH to move where you want it.
This made me smile! Your students sound like a lot of fun — of course they would be fans of your blog, it’s awesome 🙂

I had no idea you were tutoring on the internet, etc.! She looks like Anna’s gram….and I just adore her.
I love my time at the Senior Center. I tried to have a book club but they are TOO BUSY! hee hee. So, when I realized that they had a PC to use but no one to show them how to use it, I volunteered. It’s awesome for them to have another way to connect with family.
Oh my goodness! She and my gram could be twins!

Care, you should show your tutees around flickr, if you haven’t yet — that’s one of the most visually appealing websites ever, and I love that you can input one word in the search box and come up with such a variety of photos in the results.

Madelyn looks just darling. How lovely for you to have found each other. And definitely, Madelyn should try her hand at blogging. What a life story she must have to tell, if she should want to share it!
The hard part is convincing her that her stories are worth sharing. I was able to interview her for a school project and she just wouldn’t admit that anything she has experienced in her 90+ years was all that interesting! sigh.
I’m impressed at Madelyn jumping into the world of the Internet, for people who didn’t experience it from a young age, I can imagine it must be so daunting. I was explaining to my mother-in-law the other day that she can check her email from any computer, not just on her own computer!

WOW Madeline looks just like my grandmother too… oh wait, that is because she IS my grandmother.
Bet she didn’t tell you that her full name is Mary Madeline. I found that out in the 9th grade at confirmation when I took Madeline as my confirmation name. After Mass she asked why I took Madeline, I told her “because it’s your name”. She said “Well actually my name is Mary Madeline”. But no one has ever called her Mary. I think she got the better end of the deal though. Her sister Phyllis has always been called “Snookie” and her brother Bernard was called “Buster”.
Thank you so much for teaching Gram how to use the internet. People are amazed that my grandmother has a gmail account and sends me messages. I use our family blog to keep her up to date with out little family out in San Diego. It makes the 3,000 miles seem a little closer.
