The book I’m starting off with is
Cimarron by Edna Ferber.
I chose this book as part of the Lit Flicks Challenge because in 1931, the movie was awarded the Oscar for Best Picture and I have yet to see it. They made a version in 1960, too and according to imdb.com, ‘they’ are going to make another in 2010.
I’m on page 40 of 300. It’s actually quite lively in style and language and the opening is set in Wichita Kansas (where Mom&Dad live). The story involves the settling of the Oklahoma Territory. (I think. I didn’t do any research.)
I’ll be reading in the car on the way to the marina to look at boats with my husband and my dog. I will not be able to check in for Hours 1,2,3,.. ? but I will be back! Good luck everyone!
One more thing, I’m thinking of throwing my support towards ePals which is a pen pal virtual volunteering opportunity that promotes literacy. Here’s the link: http://www.volunteermatch.org/search/org88744.jsp
