Quit picking on me for liking mathematics! Sheeessh.

I will be tutoring a brilliant high school kid this summer in trigonometry and I have GOT to brush up on my skills. I do realize that I only need to stay one step ahead of him and am really only keeping him to a study plan, but still.
Actually, I have to thank all of you who are have been poking a bit of fun at me for taking along a few math books on my vacation (which, ahem, I did NOT yet open…) because you have fueled my motivation to study and now I have been challenged to review these books. Ha!

For those of you who are reading this and know someone ELSE who loves math, just tell them to click on this link from Amazon for new books on the subject…

I like reading about math, too (and physics!). There were several in the Amazon list you linked to that definitely looked interesting!
I love the history of these subjects, too. I just read Thunderstruck which features the interesting life of Marconi.
While I don’t do any math reading anymore these days, it remains my favourite subject from school. (My fave book from school isn’t a lit book but a geometry book, complete with my notes, lol.) I heart geometry and trig the most, too. I heart heart math, I do. (You’re not alone.)
Oh I totally heart trig too, not to mention geometry and algebra. What a fun summer job!
Thanks. It will hardly pay the bills but I’m hoping it will springboard me into something – like an idea of what to do with myself ‘when I grow up’.
You are truly sick. Math for fun?! I think that is an oxy-moron.
LOL! I’m sorry you don’t like math… It’s a pretty useful skill to have, tho.
You tell ‘em, Care! I think it’s so cool that you love math books. Reminds me of my husband who reads literally dozens of books on evolution and equal amounts on the brain.
THANKS DEBI!
sorry but I used to hate Math and especially Trignometry. I remember leaving half of the chapters on Trignometry for option. (yes, I passed)
But I do think it’s awesome and cool that you love it
and I’m not trying to convert any NON mathlovers to my diabolical trigonometric ways, either.
i’m mathlexic…and even reading about math makes my eye twitch! but my best friend LOVES math and is a math teacher. i LOVE english…he hates it. we get along swimmingly! enjoy your math books and don’t listen to us! ahaha.
That’s OK, and I lurve the word mathlexic. I do like English more, truthfully.
Shhhhhhhhh, I did an algebra book earlier this year (Okay, so it’s not a secret, I blogged about it). And I’m slowly (due to life circumstances and an upcoming move) going through Practical Algebra. I’ve always wanted to be good at math- I failed math in first grade. Seriously. I got a look at my first grade report card the other day and found a D, C and F in math. I had NO self confidence when it came to math or anything math related, and it’s only now that I’m beginning to work on it.
Good for you for liking math! More people need to, and I’m sure as heck trying.
Wow! You are so impressive!
It’s cool that you like reading and learning about math! What they say about people making fun of things they don’t understand is totally right in my case – numbers just don’t make sense to me. Although once I caught on to how Sudoku puzzles work I was hooked
Now if only I could figure out how much to tip at restaurants
