Weekly Geeks – Vol 09 – Issue 2

Hello, my name is Care, and I’m STILL a Weekly Geek.     This week’s geek theme:

For those who have been with the group, either from the start or joined within recent months, what does being a member mean to you? What do you enjoy about the group? What are some of your more memorable Weekly Geeks that we might could do again? What could be improved as we continue the legacy that Dewey gave us?

deweys_weekly_geeks2

I decided to go look up the very first Weekly Geek that I participated in (May 1, 2008 ) and, yea for me, it was the very first!  Wahoo!    And my motivation to join in was ‘to not be left out.’

Every week was something different;   some were easy and quick and fun and some well, were hard and time consuming!    But the spirit in which it was begun and why it is enduring, is to connect and make new friends.

I haven’t participated in every geek but I always looked forward to it.    I have made some new friends and was inspired to participate in the last 2 Read-A-Thons – something I very much enjoyed.     I will continue to participate when I can because it’s fun!    and I usually learn something.

So, to encourage a comment, here are your choices:

A.  Tiddlypom!   (See prior post.)

B.  Tell me your favorite color.   (Mine is purple.)

C.  Tell me your favorite thing about the blogging platform you use.  (I’m curious.)

D.  If you’ve ever reviewed Anne of Green Gables, pls tell me the link.   I would like to read it.   Thank you.

and…   Happy Weekly Geek!

You have been a stalwart Care. I like the sense of community WG engenders. The challenges provide us each something to blog about too.

Ooo, ‘stalwart’ sounds so stuffy and stodgy and thick, though, doesn’t it? hee hee. Thank you. I am never one to run out of posting ideas… Right now, I am 2 reviews behind and have a couple of challenges to commit my list of books to and I have a terrific recipe to share!

I have too many favourite colours! :) I’ll have to do this Weekly Geeks-I skipped last week’s, because I couldn’t pick my favourite bloggers.

And you are spelling favorite and color like the Brits now, huh? That’s cool. I also like theatre and centre… Our town has a Centre Street. Those are traditional British English spellings, yes?

I don’t think I ever actually participated in weekly geeks, but I did love seeing what Dewey came up with every week. That was always a lot of fun. My favourite colour is sea-green, by the way, if I’m allowed half-tones!

Yes, I know someone else mentioned that Dewey’s follow ups were also quite good. Of course, you are allowed half-tones.

I hate being left out of things, too. And my favourite colour is red :)

    RED. Very passionate!

I’m not sure what my favorite color is – I go back and forth between red and green – I guess I’m just a Christmas girl.

If you asked me my second favorite color it would change by the minute…

It’s all about connecting and making new friends for me too.

My favourite colour is purple too, closely followed by burgundy.

I posted about Anne of Green Gables here.

Thank you for the link and thank you for all the linking within it! Of course, you love purple. :)

Bermudaonion, my favorite colors are red and green as well, but even though I know what you mean about Christmas, I don’t think those are Christmas colors only. They can be used all year ;)

I am using the Blogger platform and I use it because it was the easiest one to get started on (or the first one I found) when I began blogging some years ago. I had tried blogging before with very little succes, back when there really wasn’t any ready-made platforms and where you needed to know too many programming things to do it. Then some years went by and in 2006 I began on blogger. Last year I moved to WordPress for some months, but never felt at home there and really couldn’t figure out their terminology, which of course is basically the same as Blogger, but still different. So I moved back to Blogger and will probably stay there, because I can figure it out.

Sure, I get it. Once you get most of it figured out, why switch?

I haven’t geeked as much as I probably should. I love the sense of community it engenders, though. Geeking, that is.

My favorite colors are purple and apple green. WAHOO!

I use Blogger because it has worked the best for me. I tried three different blog sites before I settled on Blogger. The first required money to post photos, so I ditched it. The second took about 10-15 minutes to load a single photo. Blogger was easy and straightforward. I hope that’s what you mean by “platform”. I’m not a techie.

Yep, that’s what I meant by platform. We book-bloggers seems to be a good representation of all the blog platforms.

I’m guessing you’ve seen my sucky review of Anne of Green Gables, right? Yes. It didn’t suck.

I like greens and blues with the occasional orange. Started with blogger and have stayed as it has continued to improve.

Blogger has some very nice templates. Good for you on the orange. I used to have a cool orange sweater – I wonder what happened to it, now that I’m thinking abt it…

I’m a green girl, but my five year old son has decided green is his favourite colour so I usually have to pick something else these days. My second choices tend to be red or purple.

I haven’t reviewed Anne of Green Gables, but I’ve read it several times and love it. My all time favourite book of L. M. Montgomery’s is The Blue Castle.

That is too funny, that you can’t share a favorite color?! I know what you mean. I’ll have to try The Blue Castle some day. I’m not one for series books and will likely not read the next Anne book anytime soon. Just too many books out there to read!

Have you looked at Blogging Anne of Green Gables yet?

And, I started blogging at Blogger but switched to WordPress after a couple of years. I love many things about WP, but the absolute best is that it doesn’t use CAPTCHAs — those things that make you type in the distorted letters when you leave a comment to prove you’re not a spammer.

I first started at Blogger, too, but found myself reading more WP blogs so I switched. And it took less steps to do anything with all the security ARE YOU SURE’s etc. I find WP easier.

  12. 12 Jessi January 18, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Hello, Care. My name is Jessi, my favorite color is blue, and I have an award for you! :)

Hello Jessi, THANKS for the award! You are very thoughtful.

Tiddlypom! Now I have something to say I always find it hard to post comments so thanks for that!

And my favorite color is lavender.

Mmmmm LAVENDER… a nice color, nice scent, nice crazy plant.

  14. 14 softdrink January 18, 2009 at 10:14 pm

Tiddlypom. And green. But not green tiddlypoms.

    Right. Got it.

  15. 15 blbooks January 18, 2009 at 11:40 pm

Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite books. :) My favorite colors are purple and green.

I LOVE purple and green! I had a purple and green Christmas tree this past year.

  16. 16 Violet January 19, 2009 at 2:46 am

I have way too many fav colors that change with what I am looking at.

I just read Anne of Green gables last year and I loved it too. But i did nto review it, lazy of me, i know.

It’s been fun to read reviews expressing that the blogger is the last person on earth to read this! Funny law to book reading – no matter how famous a book is, you will always be able to find one person who hasn’t read it. yet. But then, knowing how many people don’t read books these days…

  17. 17 alirambles January 19, 2009 at 2:30 pm

    Blue.

Any blue? Royal, Robin’s Egg? Navy? blue is so vast and wide… and deep and serene and calm and suggestive.

  18. 18 teeni January 20, 2009 at 10:27 pm

I love blue and yellow together. They are so happy and soothing. :)

Blue and Yellow were my HS colors. I like these together, too.
