Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri
Having had too many thoughts spiralling through my brain cavity like wisps of smoke when you blow out a candle, I offer only this as my response to Lahiri’s short story collection:
A gentle, quiet (hold breath –> exhale) …
wow.

This could be the most effective review I have seen of this book. It is true that sometimes less is more!

Thank you. Keep reading the comments – Kim speaks truth about the skills of Lahiri.
Well, I think that pretty much says it all.
Yep.
I felt similarly when I read this!
Oh good! I didn’t think I could do it justice throwing any more words in an attempt to review this.
Oh, man. I had this out from the library and had to return it unopened. Thanks for the reminder to track it down again.
I think you will like these stories. I thought I had read The Namesake and now have to go get it to make sure. I might just re-read it again, if I did. (I had forgotten I had read Atonement! which is why blogging is so awesome – it helps me keep track.)
Okay, me must read. Hey, your new banner is fun!
My banner is of a the trunk end of a blue-ish Hudson Hornet – I liked the words “Twin H Power”. The letter ‘H’ is one of my faves…
I enjoyed this book as well.
I thought you might!
Hey Care!
Lahiri is one of the most elegant writers of our time. The way that she can craft a story, the lyrical quality of her words, creates stories that read like music. She is truly gifted, and her stories carry a depth of spirit that I find is lacking in many contemporary writers.

Yes, thank you for this. I agree.
This is one of my favorite story collections – I love how you did your review. Perfect.
I loved this book too. I definitely recommend reading Unaccustomed Earth, as I actually think I enjoyed it more.
