Upcoming Books

Upcoming:    When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro

Awhile back, in a post of a book review, I offered to the first commenter who requested it, my copy of said book.

That blogger happened to be Chartroose.

She, being the awesome and amazing reciprocal type, offered to send ME a book.   What she saved on posting, she poured into the purchasing of MORE books!   I was so excited to see a package hanging from my mailbox today and I knew instantly who it was from.

I rushed into my house, carefully sliced open the box (I actually learned how to open boxes of books when I worked at a Waldenbooks ~20 years ago) and was delighted to find When We Were Orphans.

Chartroose and I are engaging in an here-to-for unpublished, non-formally announced challenge to read more Ishiguro after enjoying Never Let Me Go.   Feel free to join us.

But wait!  There’s MORE!   Not only was this National Bestseller, Booker Prize Finalist, New York Times Notable Book in the box, but I also found Laura Moriarty’s The Center of Everything and a hard cover book (that my dog thinks smells very intriguing..) Hard City  by Clark Howard.

The sun is shining, the temp is moderate, and my neighbor’s pool is available for my use since I’m caring for their dog while they are on vacation.   I don’t have to be anywhere until 4:30…   Is today a great day, or what?

Thanks Char.

There is a temperate zone in the mind, between luxurious indolence and exacting work; and it is to this region, just between laziness and labor, that summer reading belongs. ~Henry Ward Beecher

I’ve got Remains of the Day on my summer reading schedule and cannot wait. Also can’t wait to hear what you think of When We Were Orphans.

Hooray! I hope you like them! I don’t know when I’m going to get to WWWO, but my copy is sitting here staring at me quite forlornly.

Oh, the Clark Howard is my favorite semi-autobiographical novel, and it’s relatively unknown. I bought a used library copy to replace the one I sent you. Maybe your dog was smelling years of dust accumulation, or something.
