Review of The Golden Compass

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

First in His Dark Materials Trilogy.

The tale of another universe similar to ours centering on the adventures of Lyra, a young girl on a path of destiny.   All the adults seem to know what she has to do but she herself must figure it out on her own.   The althiometer and her figuring out how to read it is essential to her journey.

I enjoyed this fantasy novel for young adults.   I admit I read it because of the controversy that the Catholic Church has for it.   In fact, I’ve always thought that the one way to encourage someone to do something is to tell them NOT to.

Now, I am ready to see the movie!

Our library is closed on Mondays so I am not ‘with book’ at the moment.   I just may have to run to Borders and fix this little problem!
